Vegas 10 MS HD PPS - Will Not Start - Was Working

Khat wrote on 4/25/2011, 9:51 PM
Good day to you all. I've tried the information in the two links below. The program I am having the issue with is "Sony Vegas 10 Movie Studio HD Platinum Production Suite".

http://www.custcenter.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4288/kw/installation%20error%20vegas%20movie%20studio

http://www.custcenter.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4289/kw/uninstall%20vegas/session/L3RpbWUvMTMwMTkyNDA4NS9zaWQvVWZuLTlFcWs%3D

The only part I did not follow was: "Also, remove the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR), any and all Microsoft .NET Framework versions, and the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable software if it is listed."

I did not see SQL installed and did not uninstall the VC++ or .NET versions.

The problem I'm having is that it was working fine before. Everything was fine. I even did a system backup with the working installation and reverted to that drive image and still nothing. I have no idea what is going on in this case. I've found that a full format/reinstall will fix the issue, but this is not a permanent fix.

Please note that this issue is with WindowsXP and not with Windows7 - I can't recall having this issue with Windows7. I am not going back to Windows7 due to driver issues with some devices that I have to use.

Just to be clear - the program suddenly decided to not start. It was working before. It will work if I do a full format, but a system restore with a previous drive image does not seem to work. Doing a somewhat clean uninstall does not help (delete all folders and registry entries).

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

No-one has any suggestions? Really? Is a format and clean install in XP the only way to go?

Uninstall and re-install Vegas. If nothing works, maybe you'll have to re-install XP, along all its SPs and updates...

Try reseting VMS.

Hold down Ctrl and shift as you start VMS . You will be prompted to reset.

Reset doesn't work either. I actually thought U were joking with the SHIFT+CTRL but it actually presents a prompt.

I tried and checked the process list and saw that VMS started while the prompt was up but then closed after I selected any option.

Wondering if I should just format at this point or wait to see if there's a solution......

Any registry keys or anything that I should try and do before doing a system format?

Khat

Could this be something to do with Data Execution Prevention.
Try disabling this for VMS and see if it starts then.

Just a thought.

DEP in XP-SP3 is set to run only for Windows stuff. I could change the setting tho and see.

Currently on Windows7 and the same problem came back. Downloaded Vegas 11 MSHD and tried it out, and it works JUST FINE. I'm a bit upset at Sony at this point, as I've already purchased 10 (quite recently too) and it's not working properly. I need 11 but I seriously don't intend to pay that upgrade price which is just 10 dollars less than getting the full thing.

Upgraded and no problems since. Managed to get the upgrade for 49.95 instead of 80 dollars. Feel a little better, but still feel cheated.
