Vegas 11 and veg-file permission problem (win7)

Hi.

We're running 10 computers in a classroom with Win7 + Vegas 11 (latest patch). Students (who login to class domain) do video project in groups and we're having a problem concerning the permission for the veg-file(s). Here's what happens:

1. One of the students in a group (one computer per group) saves the project
2. Next time the student that saved the project the last time does not attend the class
3. Other members of the group cannot open the project, because Vegas says "You do not have permission to open this file"

The folder the projects are saved in has all the permissions set for everybody. Also the .veg file has been set to be accessible for everybody, but still only the original user (who saved the project) or admin can open the project.

This is really a big problem and as it does not happen with other software, I guess it's something to do with Vegas.

As you probably already guessed, the students can not have admin priviledges in any case.

Any help highly appreciated.

Let me know when you get this sorted out. My 4 machines (one with Win7) will talk to each other fine except the Win7 machine. The Win 7 machine will talk to the others except for the "C" drive. The "XP" and "Vista" machines cannot talk to the Win7 machine due to permission problem. Win 7 is the problem but don't know how to fix. All drives are set for sharing. Also Win7 would not recognize my DSL modem and had to get a new one. I hope I don't have to get all new network cards.

Did you install Vegas to be used by the "current user only" or by "any user of this PC"?

Anyway, here's a registry mod that may fix your problem. It will add "Take Ownership" to the right-click menu.

(It works in Win 7 - I use it here).

I had this issue as well, trying to access Win 7 drives on the network from an XP machine.

Also had this when trying to upgrade/install Vegas

see this site no Registry MOD required

OK, got mine to work. Opened "System folder" in Win7, then "advanced files", then "remote", then selected "let the remote desktops access the computer" , not the online remote computers. Gee I got through another Win7 zinger.

Thru trial and error I found out that on a desktop shortcut I can right click and "run as administrator" but on the shortcut on the "quick launch bar" (at the bottom) I cannot "run as administrator". There does seem to be a difference between the two instances.

Just like the guvimint.... in trying to make it safe for you, all they manage to do is make life miserable...

No guvmint conspiracy. Because Windows 7 is used in a LOT of corporate and Government settings, security is paramount. Many large corporate IT departments wanted the "Open as Admin" vector removed or at least restricted.

If you are the only user, there's really no reason to even have user accounts.
