vegas 11 project won't open cross machine

Hello, I created a project on the lastest release of V11 on my smokin' desktop editing system. I use a ext RAID drive for storage of the clips and the project veg files. A client wanted a few small edits redone so I brought the RAID drive with me this weekend to use on a win7 laptop that also has the same version/release of V11. The laptop won't open the versions created on the desktop - and vice versa. The OS sees the veg files as veags and has the correct icon for them. However, after starting up vegas and going under FILE - OPEN, go to the correct directory and single left click the veg file, in the bottom of the OPEN window on the right/bottom, the file attribute "file type" will show "unknown" on the files created on the laptop and vice versa. This was not an issue on the previous release, v11 build 583 or whatever it was. I started this project a few months ago and it has been delayed. Some earlier versions actually started on the laptop and I migrated them to the desktop (without issue) closer to the rendering since the desktop has a gtx680 GPU card in it. AM I crazy or is this a new bug or is this "normal" behaviour?

Presumably it is a stand-alone hardware RAID, rather than a 'software' one implemented under Windows ?

Or maybe it is not entirely generic, and requires a driver ?

No this is an external drive that happens to be a RAID. all other files are useable like on any external drive. The vegas projects themselves won't open on another PC with the same version of the same software. For example, if you created a word processing document in MS WORD, saved the doc on an external drive, you would expect to be able to open it on another PC with the same version of MS WORD.
