Vegas 11 Rendered File Won't Play

Vegas 11 700/701
Windows 7 64bit
Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti
16GB RAM

No matter what or how I render the project I can't play it on any machine except for the machine it was create on. I've tried three different devices and all kinds of different options (wmv, mp4, m2t, m2ts).

I get "VLC can't recognize the input's format" when trying to play any version of a WMV in VLC. MP4s don't give an error, they just don't play.

Windows media player say it doesn't support the format for any file I render.

What am I missing?

UPDATE: Uploaded video to Youtube (via Vegas) and the video plays fine there.

What file format Doug?

Hi Arthur,

I've tried rendering several formats. mpg, mp4, wmv, m2t, m2ts.

I've tried tweaking the settings within each and every one of them. I've tried both the Mainconcept and Sony versions of mp4. I've tried turning off GPU.

I thought it was the machine that I was moving the files to in order to test playback because it is Windows 8. So I tried the same files on a Windows 7 machine that has the KLITE video codec pack on it. I get the same problems there.

I can't figure it out. It's got to be something I'm overlooking.

Post the properties of the files you have rendered using MediaInfo (from Sourceforge).
Are you by chance rendering files larger than 4GB in size?

the KLITE codec pack has been a problem for some.

You might want to do some searches and see if it is interfering with your normal video playback.

The computer with KLITE on it plays every other media file I can throw at it. I know that's no guarantee that KLITE is NOT the problem but I really have to wonder since it won't play on either of my regular desktops.

Purely FWIW, Doug, this is what I'd try if it happened to me...

I'd start by trying to find a test clip that would play everywhere. If an AVC I downloaded from YouTube or wherever wouldn't play on a PC/laptop I'd figure that out 1st. What I'd aim to do is create a known-good testbed where everything could play the same type of video file.

Then I'd create a test clip at 320x240, just as you've done, using VP as well as a couple, few alternative apps. If every one played, cool. If every one played except the VP encode, VP has a problem. If none of them played, & I've already confirmed my testbed works OK with a video file of the same format & settings, then something's wrong with Windows on my original PC.
