What model of camcorder is your original video from and what format and resolution is it?

What are your Project Properties?

How much free, clean, defragmented space is on your hard drive?

What are the settings for your custom template?
What was your Encode mode set to? CPU only, OpenCL, CUDA?
Did you try using the Sony AVC/MVC mp4 template?

- I have tried both templates with some rendering, but eventual lack of progress. During the most recent rendering attempt, 32% of the file rendered and then Vegas stalled.

Sounds like you may be due for a fin and fan cleaning.

I used your settings and was successful in rendering both a 45 sec. clip and a 10 min. video.
Try a good cleaning as musicvid suggests.
