Vegas 12 won't open after update

RushingFox wrote on 9/25/2013, 10:09 PM
I just recently downloaded the update that came out a couple months ago. Anyways recently, before the update I noticed vegas would stop responding and close every 5-10 minutes. Eventually I found an update and figured that would fix it so I downloaded the update. Now vegas 12 will not open at all. I've restarted and shut-down my computer multiple times and it still will not open. Nothing pops up either.

Is there any updates installed in Windows OS recently? Some says it is an issue too.
If possible, try to roll back (system restore) to the point you feel stable.

The update isn't a problem I think, if I go back about a week vegas 12 worked perfectly. It's only recently it has started acting up.
Kimberly wrote on 9/26/2013, 10:23 AM
Try Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a Program. Sort by date and see if anything crept in there in after the date range where Vegas was working fine.

I once did an Adobe Reader or X update that locked me off the Internet. Ditto for an Intel video card update. You wouldn't think something so "benign" could be a problem, but sometimes it is.

Also, please describe more fully what Vegas does when you try to launch.

Nothing at all?
Appears to load for a while and then gets stuck?
Appears to load for a while and crashes? Is there a message?

That may help others in giving suggestions.

Good luck.

Have you tried holding down both the "Ctrl" and "Shift" keys when you start Vegas? This will make Vegas ask if you want to start in Default mode that resets all the Vegas startup configuration settings.

This is a last ditch action that should only be used if everything else fails because it resets all your custom settings.
RushingFox wrote on 9/26/2013, 11:44 AM
When I double click on Vegas 12 my mouse does the circle loading thing for half a second then it goes back to a normal mouse pointer, and Vegas is not opened and nothing related to Vegas opens.

In the programs I saw I had 64-bit Vegas and 32-bit Quicktime, would that affect it?

I'm confused on where you said to look in the programs. So here is a brief screenshot of the programs sorted by date. http://gyazo.com/f74f4c5f63c8f70f012a2711cc135318

Do you recall the date that Vegas last worked? Was it before the update, or did it stop working prior to the update? Can you rollback to a prior Restore Point when Vegas worked, then load the newest version and see what happens?

If you right-click on your Vegas short-cut, does it point to a valid executable? If you go to that file location and try to launch Vegas from the executable, what happens? Maybe your short-cut is bad? Probably not but it's easy to check so give it a try.

Had to be at least a couple weeks ago, probably around the 5th of september. This all happened rather quickly also and suddenly.

I did the previous version but this error came up http://gyazo.com/f1bcfd3497b571228ff630a0ef520832 failing to intialize a script.

Ok, after 5th September, any Windows update applied? Do you install something?
Look for Windows Update in Control Panel.

You might want to try uninstalling everything since, say, September 2 or later. An alternative would be doing a system restore to a restore point before September 5.

So are you saying when you right-clicked on the Vegas executable (not the short-cut), you received an error message?
RushingFox wrote on 9/26/2013, 10:14 PM
Ok I'll try restoring and installing tomorrow. Yes, when I double click on the .exe I get that error message. When I click on the short cut nothing comes up.

Pay particular attention to the Bit Guard app. It appears to be a rather mysterious piece of software in that only two Google results came up for "bit guard mediatechsoft". I can not vouch for this website's accuracy, but the consensus seems to be that it is malware: http://www.freefixer.com/library/file/BitGuard.exe-100063/

Edit: Googling "mediatechsoft inc" brought more results and more confirmation that you probably don't want it on your computer. I can't find any site that knows exactly what the software is doing, the company was just formed this year, and all reports of the app being on systems are very recent.

Ok I'll try restoring and installing tomorrow.

Don't forget that when you Restore back to an earlier time, you will have the version of Vegas that you had at the point of the restore. Be sure to launch than and see if it works before you upgrade to Build 714.

+1 on avoiding any mysterious software such as BitGuard. If you don't know what it does, you don't want it.

AlienAutopsy is a Dell thing I believe. I have a Dell XPS and I recognize the icon next to your Alien thingie.

Ok I uninstalled those items and re-installed vegas and it seems to be working now. I also re-installed quicktime. but the other programs have not been re-installed yet.

You may want to consider making a back up and restore disk using the windows backup. I always do this on a working system that has not been giving me problems. You never know when it may come in handy. While the restore points generally work, I have found that sometimes they don't. HDs are cheap, and a back up of the system only does not take that long. Make the start up bootable USB as well.

Okay okay hate to say it but after about 2 hours it's starting to do it again. Here is what happens: I double click the icon and it loads up, my video progress loads and then before I can edit it stops responding. Here is a screen of the data report: http://gyazo.com/1b9145309c9896af2d6ce7d207643848
Kimberly wrote on 9/27/2013, 11:42 PM
See if you can get it to crash again, and then be sure to select "Include Extra Information for Better Troubleshooting. See if you can make a screen print of that or print it to a PDF and post that.

Probably won't help, but something may jump out. That happened to me a few weeks ago with a plug-in that was causing Vegas to crash for me.

Also please read Sticky No. 3 at the top of this forum on how to post pictures and links.

are you using any black magic products?
RushingFox wrote on 9/28/2013, 6:46 AM
Ok here is the screen: [http://gyazo.com/86d0188d17ba8913a2658309478dbceb] I only edited the part where it say /users and whited out my name.

Also yes I use the blackmagic intensity shuttle usb 3.0. I mainly use it to record gameplay from a gaming console, which is usually in 720p or 1080p if that makes a difference.
Kimberly wrote on 9/28/2013, 10:39 AM
In you case the Problem Description points to a Fault Module with BLACKM~ . As noted by Ushere, your Black Magic may be the problem. Sometimes looking at the crash details will help users identify a problem.

You are almost there on getting your picture to display on the Forum. You have to include img= for pictures or link= for a link. Cool stuff.
RushingFox wrote on 9/28/2013, 5:24 PM
Ok I uninstalled all the Blackmagic software and Vegas is running as smoothly as when I first got it. Thanks for everyone's help.
set wrote on 10/4/2013, 7:51 PM
After read RushingFox's issue, conflict with Blackmagic products, is this caused by ALL their products? including Resolve Lite?
--- It's been a long time I like to try Resolve, and recent release has support for ATI cards (previously Nvidia CUDA only required).

How about ATEM control software for their Switcher unit and Media Express software?

Thanks,

Failure to open an issue with build 726, too.

I've stripped out plugins and grovel logs and thought I had it fixed, but the problem remains.

Click the shortcut, Vegas tries to open but hangs, after a long wait, have to close with task manager. Five times repeating this, each time the hang at a different stage of opening, and then on the sixth try, it opens.

This is nuts. What kind of issue gives way after repeating the same thing over and over? Isn't that the definition of insanity, trying the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results? Well, insanity is the only thing that gets build 726 to open.

It is really thorny to attribute the issue to some cause, when repetition can eventually overcome that cause.

This keeps up, and my fading interest in video (because it has become a battle with bad software instead of a creative pleasure) will soon fade to black. I'm rather looking forward to the relief.

I've had this issue with the last few updates. I don't own any Black Magic products.
What has worked for me is to open the programme as an administrator and after a few times doing this the programme seems to "remember" to open in the normal way.
Wish I had a more technical explanation.

I found that once you download updates
the update would open and sit doing nothing
the simple solution is close the update
disconnect from the internet then install it
