Vegas 13 now crashing on open / Visual Studio?

Vegas 13 has been working fine on a new clean machine. I take a week off to go to CES and upon return Vegas crashes as soon as I open it.

Windows says "Vegas Pro has stopped working." and the Vegas spash screen is hung on: Loading Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Appliations.IdeCommunications.resources.dll

I've tried to uninstall and re-install Vegas and still nothing. Noticed in control panel / programs and features, Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2012 was updated the day I left for CES, January 3, 2015. That seems likely related imo. It's listed as version 11.0.51108

Does Vegas install Visual Studio? Maybe there was an update for visual studio and it broke vegas for me? (Windows 8.1).

If I uninstall Visual Studio Tools for Applications Vegas will load and open. As soon as I re-install it, Vegas crashes. This is the link that I used to download the installer from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=38807

Any ideas on what to try? Thank you.

It would be my guess that VS has hooked into the messaging service for the debugger. Perhaps you can disable the debugger service until you need it for VS?

It's been too long since I have had VS loaded so, unfortunately, I can't be of more help but I am thinking there was an option buried somewhere in VS to turn off the debugger. Or, force a stop of the debugger in the Services control.

Just a thought...
