Vegas 16 Studio, freezing when I operate the Master volume control.

REALOldNick wrote on 3/21/2019, 11:28 PM

Build 109 V16, Trial

Win 7 64 bit Home Premium

When I go to the slider's area (the actual strip that it slides on), it follows my mouse even when I do not have the left mouse button clicked. If I click the left mouse button and try to drag the slider, it moves a very short distance and then freezes. Sometimes the whole programme freezes at the same time and will not operate for a minute or two. While it will not respond to any button clicks in the programme, it will allow play to start if I hit the spacebar.

EDIT: I have discovered that when the slider/programme is frozen, if I click the mouse anywhere outside the programme's screen such as on the Taskbar, or on the second screen, the slider instantly starts to follow the unclicked mouse again, until I click and move it, when it again freezes

Any help appreciated.

Strange one. I cannot reproduce it with VMSPlat16 Build 109. But I'm on Win10. Does it always happen?

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah it was 100% reproducible in an hour's session. Sometimes I could swipe the slider a few times, mouse left clicked, but then it would lock again. Mostly I get about half a swipe or less.

Ah. I just tried it in a new session and I have found that the slider only freezes if I start to use it while the project is playing! I am pretty sure that was not the case last session.😖 D'OH. Now it's doing it when the project is not playing again.

I did post about far more random freezes and crashes in another post, but then "SOLVED" it because a few tweaks I saw on YT seemed to make them go away. In that instance, VMSplat would freeze, then after some little time the screen would go a translucent white (you could still see Vegas through it, but misty.) and either I had to use Task Manager to kill it, or it would crash itself. One thing I am pretty sure of is this was NOT caused by use of the slider. It was random enough I could not pick what, though

I had these same symptoms when I was on Windows 7 Pro. When I migrated to Windows 10 Pro, they went away.

A work around I used when on Windows 7, was to press 'Ctrl+Alt+Del'. When the blue screen popped up (task manager, change users, etc), I would simply press 'Cancel' and when returned, the it was unlocked. Not real convenient but a way to break the link.

I'm pretty sure it was something in my system, setup and Movie Studio/Vegas Pro.

Thank you for your reply.

OK. Wow. I am not about to change OS to solve one programme's troubles. I think 'Ctrl+Alt+Del'. did free things up, even without the cancel, (sort of a scare tactic :D) but as you say a bit messy.

The Master volume control also works on Win 7, when an Aero design is chosen instead of the Classic design.

Desktop: Ryzen R7 2700, RAM 32 GB, X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming, Radeon RX 5700 8GB, Win10 2004

I'm on W7 pro and I don't have any freeze while playing and "sliding".

Can you give exactly what type of project is it?

matthias-krutz wrote on 3/22/2019, 2:11 PM

Whether Vegas freezes when pushing the Master Volume Control slider depends on the windows design set in Windows. If the original Win 7 design is used, everything works. If the classic design (XP) is set with the narrow border, Vegas will freeze while pushing the Master Volume Control. I think it also helps to undock the Master Volume Control window.

Well, I'm using "XP" look and seems all OK here.

hmmm...I _am_ using the classic look: not Aero. I think I switched away from Aero to avoid a problem with another programme.😨

However I will switch backgrounds anyway and see what happens.
