Vegas 17 Video Preview does not update

ingvarius wrote on 9/12/2019, 5:26 AM

When I turn on GPU acceleration, the video preview does not update as I edit the video.
When I turn off GPU acceleration, it is fine.

When I turn on GPU acceleration, and turn on Safe areas, the video preview functions normal.

Is there a way to have GPU acceleration on, and Safe areas off, and have the video preview work?
I have the new Vegas 17 build 284.

Edited:
Ok, I found some a solution, sort of.
If I add a Video Output Fx to the Master ouput, preview works:

The Fx is not touched, all settings are default.

I hope there is another solution to this! That the video preview would work out of the box, without these tweaks.

Which driverversion is installed for your used GPU?
And which processor are you using in the hardware?

Driver is 26.21.14.3615
I have two GPUs, Gainward GeForce 2070
The mobo is an EVGA Classified SR2, which is a dual CPU mobo.
So it has two Intel XEON 5680
Is this the information yuou asked for?

To me it seems all more than enough for this program.
For Vegas Pro 17 it is better to use the Studio driver latest version 431,86

Thanks! Now I learned that- NVIDIA Studio driver, never heard of it! I work in CInema 4D, and also in Black Magic Studio, and I saw that the Studio driver is recommended for these versions.
So I installed it. For my problems with the Vegas Preview, it had no effect unfortunately.
But I discovered something else. It is sufficient to add an FX to the main video bus output. It doesn't have to be enabled!

The mere presence of it fixes the problem.
Anyhow - I have bought all Vegas versions since 2008. And mostly there has been issues with the video preview. On various machines, with various GPUs. There is something there, buried deep into the system, inherited in the Vegas system.
The thumb of rule is: Install a new version of Vegas, add a video to the timeline, and see nothing in the Video Preview Window. Then start tweaking and somehow it works. Either by turning off GPU acceleration or some other tricks and tweaks I mostly forget I did, when Vegas finally works.

For good and fast preview you are able to switch on a new feature of VPro 17: hardware decoding.

Here's an update.
The NVIDIA Studio driver was no success. I spent 3 hours.
Because all versions I have of Cinema 4D crashed on startup.
But it was not easy to revert back to the old display driver. I had to use the https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ DDU. Many boots in safe mode, reboots and "not compatible" warnings when I wanted to install my previous driver. What saved med was the DVD than came with the GPU. This installation worked, and it updated to the latest driver 26.21.14.3630 to boot.
Thanks for the tip on the Hardware decoder in Vegas!

Now, I am still where I was when I posted my first message. Preview in Vegas 17 does not work out of the box on my system. I must either enable Safe areas in the preview windows, or always add an FX to the main video bus.
Having to apply these tweaks is not acceptable IMO.

That driver should work fine on your system... that goes to show there's some issues with Nvidia's drivers on dual-GPU systems.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

Yes I am sure you are right! Now, it works fine for me now. So I don't know what I miss not having the Studio driver. I have submitted a Support request to Magix regarding the video Preview problems I have.
