!!Vegas 2.0b (pre-release) now posted!!

Special notes about this pre-release update (10/5/00).

Vegas has undergone extensive reworking to fix a number of
bugs. We have tried to address most of the bugs reported to
Sonic Foundry Tech Support, as well as those discussed in
the Vegas Forum. This pre-release version is not a beta-
the application is significantly more stable than 2.0a and a number
of features have been added. The download page lists the major bug
fixes and feature enhancements.

Again, you should have no problems running the 2.0b pre-
release version, but if needed we have left 2.0a up on the
site.

If you are seeing problems with text formatting when opening existing
Vegas projects, please check the download page tomorrow- we'll be
posting a new text plug-in tomorrow (October 6th). This
will be a lightweight download, and when it is up we
will notify this forum.

If you do have any problems please submit them via email and we will
do our best to fix them before 2.0b becomes final. The 2.0b update is
scheduled for final release on or before the 3rd week of
October, 2000.

Thanks to everyone for their patience, we are working very hard to
improve the Vegas experience, and we appreciate and take seriously
all (legitimate!) posts on this forum.

It is a beta, that's what it's labeled in the download section.

I personally think this update is a great thing.

It addressed the crashing bugs...which is really what I care about
right now. Especially being able to record 24-bit/44.1 16 tracks at
a time over a 1:30 length).

I'm sure all the other tidbits of problems will be addressed and
fixed (this based on what I've now seen with this update).

Some lurking bugs that still prevail:

- resizing windows (playback or recording) still seems to affect
(stutter/hiccup) the playback/recording process.
Again, this DOES NOT HAPPEN IN VEGAS 1.0B. It still needs some
attention and I'm sure they already know this. It is NOT crashing
anymore (as of yet) that I can see though...so that's good.

- when I record (say 14-16 tracks) at the same time....then press
stop and press the delete all button. I still am seeing the "blank"
tracks where the audio would have been.
I have to manually remove them.

- after recording successfully in a track (say a stereo track)...and
say OK TO KEEP it. Then select that tracks audio and DELETE the
audio from it....
Then I manually deleted (from the EXPLORER VIEW IN VEGAS 2.0) all the
prior .wavs I recorded FROM THE EXPLORER VIEW IN VA2.0 (delete all
the .wavs recorded from my designated RECORD TO folder).

Then go to re-record into that same track again...I noticed that it
wouldn't record into that same track.

I had to start a new session or close the track and start a new track
to record into.
Not a huge deal, but something that should be fixed I would say.

All in all I am happy cause I finally get to use 2.0 at least.

I cannot repro the other things found (like the guy who is using
Win98 first version). I am using SE and i think that may be the
problem. I think "he" should follow up with tech support on that and
not waste time in the forums too much with this.

thanks and all is looking much better. Can't wait for a final
release.
Joe

We don't need you're assistance here Irvin, you can go back to your
Nuendo forum and annoy them over there with your stupidity.

IMO, SF needs to be commended for taking this "pre-release"
approach ... while they will obviously get some valuable feedback
from doing so, those with troubles will hopefully get some relief,
and have an additonal chance for input to boot.

Appears to me to be a laudable attempt at being responsive to
customer's complaints and needs.

KAC ...
