Vegas 2.0h questions

I am currently using this software and really like it but I have a few problems. When I have a voiceover track on one and a dropped in music track on another I get some popping on the music track. I've tried muting the vocal, different plugins, levels etc...with no change. I have them both on Bus A and don't know how to change Bus route from one track to the next. I am using a Delta 44 and SBlasterLive sound cards with a Focusrite Voicemaster Mixer and an AKG 4000C Condensor Mic. I do professional voiceovers and this is driving me nuts as I want to put out good quality and it's disapointing. Can someone please help me? I am relatively new to this so please help me understand. Thank you in advance. Woodsy.

You might want to download the Vegas 4 demo and see if it solves the problem, if it does, the only solution might be to upgrade...

Hi,

-Can you give some more specifications about your setup(os,proc, mem, video etc)?
-I 'm assuming you do all recording and playback(audiowise)tru the Delta ?
If not, make sure you do(set the routing in "preferences"to the Delta -maybe you allready did that..).Also,try to set the Buffer settings in the Control Panel for the Delta as big as needed to get rid of popping and clicking.
.
-Any background utilities running that you really don't need ? Disable them!
-Soundcards are assigned to its own IRQ's right ? Just to make sure.

Again, more details of your system might shine a brighter light on your problem .These are generic solutions-and maybe you're tried them allready.

I am running 2000, 1.3Ghz with 526RAM and only using the audio in Vegas. I record in the Delta and playback in SBlaster as I have 5.1 speakers and they are unsupported with the Delta 44. You mentioned about setting the Buffer controls to full in the Delta....any suggestions as to how. IRQs are seperate as well. Hope this helps in solving my problem. Please advise.

Just what I said ...do the playback tru the Delta,NOT the SBlive(anyway,5.1 isn't supported in Vegas 2 either,so why bother? )Also, playback quality of the Live is not that good(actually...it is kinda bad in terms of signal-noise ratio, freq response, etc, etc,
personally I think it sucks for some serious audio stuff) compared to the Delta, plus the Live does a horrid job of trying to convert all incoming samplerates to 48KHz.

Maybe I'm telling you this in a fairly blunt manner, but do your ears(and nerves, for this crackling and popping) a big favor:SKIP the Live and do your audio playback iin Vegas(and any other serious audio-apps for that matter). If you still want to monitor tru that 5.1 system(....) patch the output of the Delta to the input of the SB.

Buffer Settings.Open up the Delta Control Panel(Start-Settings-Delta Control Panel,or in the System Tray if you got it there ,too ),and look for the DMA Buffer Size.Experiment with it 'till all audio sounds smoothly.

But again:SKIP the Live. It's okay though to play your regular games, system sounds and midi and so forth through it.

Gerard.

I agree that you should bypass the Soundblaster - at least to see if the problem goes away. If not, try unistalling the Soundblaster (hardware and drivers) and see if that fixes it. You should first make sure Vegas works fine with the Delta. Then see if the SB will work along with it - but like the previous poster, I recommend dumping it altogether if you're interested in doing serious audio.

I went in and reset my Delta 44 and tried playing with the bufer but it only made it worse. It almost seems that it sounds better through the SBlaster than the Delta....how frustrating! Could the default settings in Vegas have an effect? Any thoughts as to what I should try next? Thanks.

I tried the latest Delta drivers and actually,my performance was worse than the version I used before,so I rolled back to the previous version ,which works flawless for me.

Experiment with different Delta drivers..it may improve your performance.(I use the 0029 drivers, your mileage may vary). Also, in the Detla Control Panel ,set Multitrack Driver Devices to "Independent" ..this solved some more hickups(for me anyway). For the buffer settings I just took the biggest buffers(2048 works for me)

Furthermore:you do have a win2000 install with Servicepack 4 installed , right ?
With SP2 the WDM drivers were unworkable(for me,that is), SP4 solved a lot of problems.Updating your video drivers, tuning your bios a bit and disabling Services might help too-but those are quite generic issues that are allready dicussed and beaten to death all around all kinds of forums. And maybe you allready did that by forehand. ;)

And last but not least: pull the Live out of your system and see if that helps.

Actually, since Vegas Audio was the succesor of Vegas Pro(the version I have) ,you may do a search for "Vegas Pro" or "Vegas 1.0b" (and/or "SBLive" to read about the culpits of this soundcard) tru this forum to pick up some more tips and info about this problem

Good luck ,Gerard.

Yes, I failed to comment on the notorious Maudio driver issues. Personally I would scrap both the SB and the Delta and get something more reliable like an Echo card. I've used Laylas with every version of Vegas and never had an issue with Echo cards or drivers.
