vegas 20, 21 NEWBLUEFX plug-in problem, transition 'X' issue

poli-keting wrote on 4/21/2024, 4:42 AM

I used the transitions included in the newbluefx freely distributed plugin in the last Vegas version 20. However, after changing to version 21, it seems that the transitions and plug-ins used in version 20 can no longer be used.

I think I've seen other users' posts saying that they can't use plugins while updating from 20 to 21, but I'm not sure if it's exactly the same as mine.

Are there any differences in the approval of plugins supported by newbluefx, etc. between Vegas versions 20 and 21? If you load a file that was worked on in 20 into 21, there will be no trace of the transition applied.

And how should the transitions with red 'X' in version 21 be unlocked? I installed only Vegas 21 version without installing any additional plugins, but I am curious as to why the X appears.

The 'X' usually means that the VFX is not licensed for any Vegas Pro version other than the version that it came with as a bonus (VP20 in this case). In other words, the bonus NBFX package is license-locked to Vegas Pro 20.

I wonder if there has been a recent change in NBFX policy re licence-locking because I think that the last licence-locked NBFX bonus package was with Vegas Pro 14. I am confident that @jetdv will know for sure what the situation is.

In the past, 3rd party FX companies have offered bonus but licence-locked packages with Vegas Pro as a sales inducement that the VP user will purchase from that 3rd party company more of their products or need to purchase the full retail product after moving to the next VP version.

Two things though:

1. Is VP20 still installed?

2. Have you tried entering the NBFX serial number into one of the NBFX transitions in VP21?

@poli-keting, please contact NewBlue support as it is, obviously, not activated for some reason or you would not be getting the X watermark. Information you need to include:

1. Version(s) of VEGAS installed

2. Screenshot of the App Manager

@poli-keting  ... it's not the best idea to upload images containing your serial numbers. This forum is a public forum and anybody in the world on can now see your NBFX serial numbers if they happen to view this thread. The unscupulous may even use the serial numbers to sell pirated copies of those programs on the web.

It is suggested that you use the Edit next to that comment and delete the image, then upload again once you've blurred/deleted the serial numbers in an image editor.

Where did "Prime" come from? I don't recall a "Prime" designed for VEGAS.

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 4/22/2024, 8:57 AM

NewblueFX Prime seems to be a 'packaged effects' for Avid Media Composer.....

Reyfox wrote on 4/22/2024, 9:52 AM

@Steve_Rhoden, yep! So it never came really with Vegas Pro 20 to my recollection.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I apologize for my ignorance T^T

Or is it possible that the plugin I thought was NBFX is boris? When using vp20, I installed a plug-in manager without any confidence, so I don't know which manager worked.

Dexcon wrote on 4/23/2024, 2:05 AM

I think I now know what you are asking. You've got a license for BoridFX's Primatte Studio but you have installed the entire Boris Continuum Complete (BCC) package and womdering why most of the VFX have a red cross over them. If this is what is happening, have a look at this BorisFX tutorial on how to go about installaing a BCC premium filter (e.g. Primatte Studio) - view from about 02:45:

Even though this is for Vegas Pro 18, the process should still apply in Vegas Pro 21.

When a BCC filter (VFX) is offered as a bonus with Vegas Pro, the BorisFX licence is for that filter alone, not the entire BCC Suite which consists of 100s of effects and which to buy new normally costs around $695 USD - but is currently 25% off that price. Installing the entire BCC Suite means that while you will have access to the licenced Primatte Studio, you don't have access to the non-licenced effects which will thus appear with a Red 'X'. To get access to those other effects, you'd have to buy the BCC Suite or a Unit for a sub-set of theme-based effects. More information here.

The YT tutorial shows how to install your licenced effect without all the other non-licenced effects also being installed.

If you click on the effect on the VideoFX or Transition tab, at the bottom of the tab it will tell you details about that effect including which manufacturer it came from.

If you tell us the name of the effect or transition, we can probably tell you who it came from as well.
