Vegas 20 Build 214 constant crashing with MP4's

Hoping to find some answers after several days of scouring the internet, these forums, trying everything I could find, and still no luck. Probably because I don't know how best to phrase the problem that's occurring. Background, I only use MP4 video files from my GoPro's when editing, and use footage from 3-5 different GoPro's at any time, typically 8-9 hours total footage per GoPro, then two MP3 files from two separate audio recorders.

I was using Vegas Pro 19, build 400 something for the last year without issue until about 2 weeks ago. It had been running slower than usual, I cleaned out all temp folders (though not the Vegas temp folder) on my PC, and did an update to the last build on Pro 19. Updated every driver on my PC that I could find as well at the time. Full reboot, everything else worked and continues to work fine, but Vegas started crashing immediately after adding any of the MP4 video files in.

Did some reading and found that was a common issue. I upgraded to Vegas Pro 20, and for whatever reason the problem went away. I was able to edit two more full videos without issue, and it seemed like all was good. Last night, the issue returned. No matter what I do, I simply can't do anything inside of Vegas 20 without it crashing within a minute of use.

I pulled a screenshot of the latest crash report, should be attached. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a solution to this, or is there any other additional information I can try to provide to help find a solution? Thank you!!!

And what is the format of the video inside those MP4 files?

@603Bass
Try to uncheck "Enable legacy HEVC decoding" in Options/Preferences/File I/O if those GOPro files are HEVC

THANK YOU! That seems to have fixed it, I've been able to edit in there for a good 20 minutes or so now without any crashing and everything is as responsive as it was before, that was the only change I made. I thought I had already checked that off in my current version, I remember doing it in Pro 19 at one point and that fixed my previous crashing issues.

It is odd that Pro 20 was working just fine for two full videos and then the crashing issue happened again. Any reason or guess as to why that could have happened, like something I may have done on my end I should be aware of?

It could be those videos didn't use HEVC, or the same type of HEVC encoding.
