Vegas 3.0 capture problem

I just got a brand new Dell XPS with two 120g hd's, one just for video capture. I have installed VV 3.0 on it (I've had it for two years now, waiting for a computer that could run it; I'll upgrade to 4.0 later) and tried to capture video with my old Sony D8 TRV130. Hooked it up to the front firewire, opened the media pool window, clicked on the camera icon and it launched me into the capture utility with no problem. Seeing that the default capture location would be on my C drive, I changed the path to a new folder I created on my other hd.

When I tried to start capturing I got a message window saying: The device 'No Capture Device' could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user.

Another window that comes up is: The device 'Microsoft DV Camera and VCR' could not be opened...

And yet when I go into Options/Preferences/Video Device and the "OHCI Compliant..." line is highlighted, it says:
This device supports recompression
Hot pluggable device
Device connected

Anybody?
