Vegas 3.0 Mpeg encoder produces invalid file for DVD

I've been using Vegas 2.0, TMPGenc to encode to Mpeg, BitRate to analyze Mpeg files, and SpruceUp to author DVDs.

I was delighted that Vegas 3.0 had a better encoder so I wouldn't need to use a stand-alone encoder. I bought it immediately and it does seem to quickly and beautifully encode files. But, I'm now working on my first DVD with 3.0 and I find that when I create a full DVD size file, the Mpeg file it creates can not be read by either BitRate or SpruceUp. Bitrate complains the TProgressBar limit has been exceeded and SpruceUp says the system header information is invalid and the file may be corrupted. Bitrate can read small files, but SpruceUp can't.

Has anyone asuccessfully created an Mpeg-2 file with Vegas 3.0 and burnt it onto DVD? Did you have to tweak any of the encoder settings? If so, what did you change?

Thanks in advance.

Vegas 3 uses a different MPEG encoder (Main Concept) than Vegas 2 (Ligos) and many people, including me, have burned DVDs with Vegas 3 MPEGs.

Before Spruce got purchased by Steve, the Spruce QA team tested Vegas 2 and 3 MPEG-2 files and said "they are absolutely compliant". In my old copy of SpruceUp, I can't load any MPEGs anymore (from any encoder) and their tech support no longer responds to inquiries.

Make sure you have the "elementary streams" box checked and not the "program stream" in VV3. Output the audio as seperate .wav file first and then the video for mpeg2 as outlined before. This will only be possible (I beleive) with the 107 build(the newest) of VV3(I couldn't find it before I updated). Also make sure you "insert headers" and "close all GOPs" and you'll be fine. Works for me everytime now. I did have the same roblem as you before. By the way go with DVDit PE 2.5 if you can. Much better than Spruce and they have support.

Thanks. That sounds very encouraging. But I can't find the "close all GOPs" setting. Could you tell me where it is please?

Thanks.

which version (build #)of VV3 are you using?

I'm using build 107

Okay, it's a box that is available to "check" when you choose "elementary streams". Did you find "elementary streams"? I am not at the program till later so I cannot be exact. Give me about 4 hours and I can be very explicit.

Thanks for your help everybody. I switched to DvdIt SE (I was too cheap for PE) and everything works fine now even with the default VV3 Mpeg-2 settings.
