Vegas 3.0 problem

I am working on a project using video from a Digital Camera. (I believe the files are .AVI, although Windows only lists the file type as "Video Clip"). The files played perfectly on my computer using Windows Media Players. However, when I imported them into Vegas Video 3.0 only the audio showed up, as if there was no video attached. When I dragged the videos into the time line it only created an audio track, no video.

Please help!

I think you are goign to be hard pressed to get support for this piece of software as to the best of my knowedge Vegas Video 3.0 predates both XP and Vista, and is nearly 8 years old.

What type of camera did you film with? What operating system are you using?

I know, the program came out in 2002. I've wanted to update for a long time but have lacked the funds. I'm running Windows XP. I'm not sure what type of camera it is, my sister-in-law filmed it and gave me the files on a flash drive.

Odds are you need an MJPEG codec installed.

Here's more info

Option 1: As jetdv said, install an MJPEG codec. The most popular one is Morgan Multimedia's. I believe it'll cost you $20.

Option 2: Download and install ffdshow. Then from the ffdshow program group, run its VFW configuration, select the Decoder tab, find MJPEG in the list, and change its Decoder setting from "disabled" to "libavcodec." Click OK, and then restart Vegas.

There are lots of ways of encoding an AVI file. The symptoms seem to say that this is an unsupported format, and as Ed an Bstro say it's probably mjpeg. A program like gspot might be able to tell you what's in the AVI file.
