Vegas 4.0 and the 5.1 Center channel

While running some 5.1 simulations we ran across a question no one can find the answer too.

When you put audio through the Center channel, does that disrupt your "Stereo image?"

For example, I have Brian at 25% left, coming out the front speakers only.

I decide to add Brian into the Center channel (at -6 db or so).

Will Brian still sound as if he's 25% left? Or will he be more around 18-19%?

You are going to localize according to level and placement.

Level of the Center channel?

It sounds like to me that you already answered your own question. The center channel is there to make a stronger center image, therefore focusing the center image more than it would be in a stereo setup with a phantom center image. Therefore if Brian is 25% left in your analogy and you add a percentage of Brian to the right of this then it would therefore naturally pull that 25% left pan image of the same signal to the right.

I'm having a hard time figuring out why no one at the simulation couldn't figure this out by just listening to it. You where monitoring with a surround setup right?
