Vegas 4.0 EDLs

Does anyone know why Frame Rates and (Sampling Rate) info are not contained within the text of a Vegas EDL?

When loading an EDL into another program like AVtransfer this lack of info causes other programs confusion (AVtransfer seems to guess it's 25 fps and 44.1khz regardless of the Vegas project properties or Timeline settings.)

I'm trying to create OMFs FROM Vegas via AVtransfer (inputting an OMF to Vegas via this program does work).

To avoid anomalies (like gaps - i.e. clicks that occur when clips get moved in either direction toward the video frame line to enable import via OMF to various systems) I've been Quantizing to Frame in Vegas, but of course when the Frame Rate per second info doesn't accompany the EDL, AVtransfer thinks I'm NOT quantized to the frame line.

Hope thats clear.

TIA

Matt

Just a guess, but... Wouldn't that be a limitation in the EDL format?

Yes you're correct since posting earlier I've realized that the EDL format doesn't actually include this info per se.

It turns out that AVtransfer does have a way to change the Frame Rate I wasn't aware of. It's tucked away under the CD Config button (don't know why) as Set Default Project Frame Rate. Also, I'm told that AVtransfer picks as it's Sample Rate that of the first file it sees.

I'll let you know tomorrow if this clears up the click issues I was having.

Was that "seriously?" as in "what a joke" or "seriously" as in "I want to know about that."

I would like to know how to use a veags 4 edl in sekd's edl convert for use in samplitude, as I would like to compare these two programs.

Right now I'm working with the fabulous Digby on some rounding error issues which I hope we'll have resolved in a couple of days and then I'll report back to this thread in detail.

Well, maybe that's for another thread but I will say that I am also in contact with the EDLconvert folks who admit that currently Vegas to Saw doesn't work but this may be ironed out shortly. I don't know Samplitude but imagine this would be one of their paramount concerns.

I hope transfers from PT to Vegas are HIGH on their prioity list, I am doing everything possible to keep from having 2 computers here causing nightmares of constant switching

Hey Pipeline:

AVtransfer DOES do PT to Vegas now! Go to avtransferonline.com for demo (which if they've updated the web page should contain Vegas EDL options).

Whether or not the slight errors I'm dealing with going the other way (Vegas back to PT) also show up - I'm not sure. Though I don't hear any errors from within the AVtransfer Project Play screen (which is automatically padded down quite a bit) I don't have a PT rig currently available that I can use to look/see/hear the original project's timeline with, and thus compare.

More later.
