Vegas 4.0 Video capture problems

Hi,

I have no previous experience with Vegas. When I use Vegas 4.0c (build 184) to capture video from a DV camera connected to the IEEE 1394 port I have extremely high rate of dropped frames. The sound and video stop for 1/4 of a second and after that continues. If I just play the camera through Video Capture 4.0 everything is fine.

It is interesting that I have no problems if I use Screenblast Videofactory 2.0 from Sony and Sonic Foundry. Any ideas why it is happening ? Any known workarounds for this problem ?

I have a Dell computer with 3.06 Ghz Pentium 4, 240 GB disk space and 1.5 GB ram.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Orlin

One problem may be that your hard drive needs de-fragging...

Maybe?

Verify that DMA is turned on. This is needed for ALL hard drives.

I think XP does DMA automatically but could be wrong.

could be that you need to buy a cheap OS hard drive. Install your applications on that and then run your large harddrive as a media and capture drive.
What are the rpm of your harddrive? if its 7200 rpm FORGET it

It could also be that you should have bought an AMD Athlon or Barton processor. - haa haa j/k

Enjoy -
