A upgrade (what you PAY for) is DIFFERENT than a supplemental release such as 4.01 or 4.02 release. Generally a upgrade includes new features and the version number gets bumped to reflect that, while the supplemental releases if any fix reported 'bugs' that the developer deemed were severe enough to warrant an intermediate release until the next version is released.

The next VERSION of Vegas will be very likely be called 5.0. Any 4.x will just fix 'bugs' and probably be a free download. I suspect that version 5 of Vegas is at least nine months to a year or more away. Rarely do companies release a upgrade (4.x) and load it up with new features, if they do then that justifies charging for it. The one expection that comes to mind would be Microsoft charging for 3.1 of Windows which really just corrected a lot of bugs in the initial 3.0 release. Because Microsoft is the 400 pound gorilla, they can get away it. Other companies aren't so arrogant. :-)

In general, I would agree, though I think DVD Arhitect is lacking enough in some key features/functions that we shouldn't have to pay for the "upgrade".

You won't get any argument from me on that. <wink> Yes, I've been a little critical of DVD-A, but still I think its a good application, just that it still needs some polish and also it needs to address some of the issues raised in the DVD-A forum. I hope they are included in a "free" 1.x release, and soon.

BillyBoy, was there another post before yours that isn't here now? Maybe i'm just confused, but it seems like you're responding to a lot more than what eheh was asking.

Uh, did I somehow miss V 4.0a? If so, can't seem to find it anywhere on the site.

Maybe with DVD Architect they'll do like Adobe did with InDesign and charge $50 for a v1.5 upgrade. I'm still hoping for multiple audio tracks and subtitles.
