Vegas 4.0d Freezing up

I have installed Vegas 4.0d and tried to capture my first movie but it has locked up on me 3 times before I can capture the movie. Once at 27 minutes, then at 1 hour & 6 minutes and once it made it to 1 hour & 17 minutes. I am running a Athlon 2.4 GHz with 1 Gig of memory. A Sb Audigy 2 with the latest drivers and an ATI 9700 Radeon card. What could be causing the lock-ups. Thank you.

How about the capture card drivers? Are they up to date?

Yes. I am using a Canopus ADVC 100. Everything is up-to-date. I just tried it for the fourth time and made it to 1 hour and 15 minutes before it froze up. Any ideas for a fix would be much appreciated. I'm also running Windows XP.

There have been several ATI driver problems in the past that impacted Vegas and Photoshop. (somewhere around catalyst 2.2 or 2.3)...Are you running recent drivers?

Another thing, and a main cause of capture failure, is resource sharing. It may be that your modem, nic, sound card, or other resource is stealing from the firewire bus. Audigy's also are known to have some issues. I've had very few issues, but there are some folks that just can't get the Audigy to work in certain configs.
Also, if you have a VIA chipset, and I assume you do since you have an AMD system and a majority of AMD compatible mobo's use VIA, be sure you ahve latest drivers. VIA is infamous for multimedia problems.
