It's like christmas in summer!

(which is kinda unusual for a swede)

Good work, guys!

I'm praying that my stability issues disappeared with this build... To the testing grounds, Robin!

Damn, still got the "ContourPRO" crash. Steps:

I fire up a medium-sized project. It's got a few audio tracks and a video track. I start playing with the jog wheel (the one that shuffles playback between reverse and forward) and at the same time I click around on the gray area beneath the tracks to start playback from different locations. After a few clicks, Vegas freezes.

Update: I think the key is that I play back at a non-normal speed using the ContourPro. I couldn't reproduce the crash by using just keyboard and GUI.

Update II: OK, this definitely has to do with the number of tracks involved.

I tried on an empty project: No crash.
One track, one audio file: No crash.
Two tracks, two partially overlapping files: Crash, but ONLY when I click to play back the area where the two files overlap.

Is this just with the Contour Pro or with the keyboard as well?

No, can't seem to call it up using the keyboard. I'll try some more, though.

Update: Nope, it doesn't seem to be possible to actually get it to freeze using just the keyboard. The funny thing is this: Vegas seems to go into a state of "near freeze" as I frantically click various locations - and it gets drastically worse when I click the overlapping area. If I just set playback speed to 4x using the GUI slider, Vegas simply pauses playback until I've "made up my mind" about where I want to start playback.

If I use the ShuttlePro and do the exact same thing, that's where the freeze happens.

SF - this is just not good enough. Acid already has an 'e' update. I think Vegas should have at least an 'e' one too, if not an 'f' or 'g' !

"Just out of curiousity, is that the "biggest" update you guys ever put out? :)"

I would guess not, but I would have to say it's the Biggest identified bug fix listing they've put out. I've reported bugs in the past, that got updated but was never listed in the bug fixes. I think, maybe they're making a point to all those whiny users that cry "I need an update....blah..blah..blah" The point they're making is that they are working hard and not just sitting on their asses.

What's the best way to install this update?

Should 4.0c be uninstalled, and the full downloaded version of 4.0d then installed?

Or will the update just install over 4.0c?
MyST wrote on 8/12/2003, 4:14 PM
"Or will the update just install over 4.0c?"

Yes.
During install, don't forget to select "yes to all" when asked to overwrite the previous files .

Its been 24 hrs and there's been hardly any reports here on how the update is doing for folks. Should I take this to mean that all is good with it. . .? I hope. ;-)

Well, the bug I reported magically disappeared after I played around with Audio Device settings, and it's been stable ever since. Let's keep them fingers crossed... =)

this update rocks. I had a day tracking drums, a fair bit of editing... no crashes, no glitches. I'm also rather enyoying my new Manley / UA preamps, new mics and 3x UAD1 cards!

hehe what a good day :o)

cheers SF.

Uh, that would be 3.0c, and it's been forever like that...I would think with all the power outages in the east that Sonic Foundry would consider putting out some more updates; get a leg up on those boys at Cakewalk...kick while they're down, so to speak...
bgc wrote on 8/15/2003, 2:00 AM
Stusy the update to 3.0c is 4.0-a,b,c,d. If you're waiting for 3.0d you don't undertand the nature of software revisions.
pwppch wrote on 8/15/2003, 8:12 AM
Stusy: Are you just playing dumb on purpose?

I typed 3.0d. I meant 3.0c.

So, to make it perfectly clear, there will be no 3.0d. 3.0c will forever be the last and final update to Vegas 3.0.

I you want the latest version of Vegas, you can upgrade (not update) to Vegas 4.0 and obtain the 4.0d update.

Stusy, can you please explain what the power outages out east (yes, i was in the dark for about 7 hours; had fun cooking frozen burgers over a campfire for supper) have to do with putting out more updates? I can't even begin to fathom any connection. I guess i'm just not as smart as you are. Please educate me.

Thanks.
