This bundle is available on Canopus'site :

I have one question : does anybody know if Vegas needs to recompress edited frames for the analog video output while editing ?
If the card accepts non recompress edited frames, fluidity could be better with this card than the conversion with the camcorder on an external monitor.

Thanks
Nico

Not sure I understand your question, but maybe this will help...

The card compresses analog video the same as their cheaper box ($250 US), or a camcorder for that matter, but you don't need a firewire card ($12 & up). DV probably does a pass through using the firewire connection. Either way you're dealing with compressed DV video, and no, if you don't change anything, it doesn't need to be recompressed while or after editing.

I think the answer is: yes.

The way this card interacts with Vegas goes all through dv.
Take an analog signal to the card - it will convert it to a dv-stream heading to Vegas as dv-video.
Way back it needs a dv-stream coming from Vegas and the card can convert this dv-stream to analog video.
So output from Vegas to feed this card must always be a clean dv-signal. And this needs recompressing in Vegas if you applied filters or effects to the video.

canopus looks real good but I understand they want you to pay for everything. Curious to see if you can duplicate everything using VV4.

I have yet to try this new hardware, but my understanding is that for external monitor, it should work just like having a 1394 card and a camcoder (it will act as a DV device and provide analog out). For DV footage, and for DV pre-renders, it will output without delay.
