vegas 4 multi track sync problems

hi,
i'm sure somewhere someone has discussed this but i can't find it...

i'm pretty new at recording with vegas. i have a soundblaster live! card, an athalon processor, 256mg ram.. my hard drive is 3/4 full. and i'm using vegas 4.

do any of the above things cause a second track not to sync up with the first?
i'm just playing guitar on one track and trying to record the second guitar on the second track and they don't sync up. no plug ins or anything.

thanks in advance to anyone who has advice for me.

The issue is called latency, and all sound cards have at least a little. If your using vv4 try the asio drivers. Also check in the options drop down menu vv3 (options-preferences-audio-advanced) or vv4(options-preferences-audio device) make sure the automatically detect and offset is checked, if this doesn't help, test your latency by recording a percusive sound. i.e. drum or hand clap, overdub a second percusive track in time with the first one, line them up, figure out how many ms you moved it, set the latency offset manually in the advanced tab. VV4's advanced tab gives you an interpolate position check box you can check as well. HTH
