If anyone knows what control surfaces are going to be supported by Vegas 5, I'd love to hear from them. If it's going to support the Mackie Control Universal, I'll add that device to my mix of test bed gear.
Aside from such things as the Contour Shuttle Pro, is there any such thing as a "Video" control surface? You know, a device like an analog video mixer that would control software video fades, dissolves, takes, etc?
Well if Sony publishes a spec for Vegas+DVD, to make it easy for third party developers to make things like that, I may well do it. Once I get the computer platform sorted out for this, control surfaces will be the only things I need in order to just switch to this family of software entirely.
Right now I have a wide range of products from different manufacturers, running on Mac & PC, to do video editing, audio editing, etc. It would be nice to have only one system to do it all. I've considered going to Avid, the latest Media 100 stuff, and others, but they're all very pricey, and the only thing keeping Vegas out of the running for me has been the lack of control surfaces - mostly for the audio side, but it would be nice to have video control surfaces for things like jog/shuttle, a timecode display, color-coded keyboard key caps for shortcuts, etc. It would be almost worth it to design my own just for myself. But I figure if I did that, at least a fraction of Vegas users would probably want one. The Mackie Control Universal may do the trick though, if Vegas 5 supports it properly. We'll see.
I gotta say I like the World Tech better. It's a real keyboard. The Bella I bought, the jog shuttle wheel feels like a cereal box toy. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the heft of the Contour version 2.
