Vegas 5 - External Control Surface Support and Fader Automation

Do you have any suggestions of afordable external control surfaces?

SONY says that... "External Control Surface Support and Fader Automation
Take advantage of hands-on mixing using external control surfaces with Vegas 5 software. Receive and send commands to compatible outboard devices to control transport, faders, mutes, solos, pans, effects automation and video tracks. Vegas ships with built-in support for the Mackie® Control Universal, but the generic control interface option allows user-customizable mapping of MIDI control commands to your favorite control surface".

Any midi capable surface can be used with Vegas, you'll just need to teach Vegas to use it. The Mackie is far and away the best, with all drivers written VERY solidly for the unit. I've successfully taught Vegas to use Tascam and M-Audio tools, the M-Audio Radium can be used and it's only 159.00, but it's a keyboard. The small JL Cooper is decent, too small for my tastes, but it too, can be used. MMC is an issue, but I keep hearing of workarounds for that. Haven't tried them myself.

Anyone tried a Peavey 1600? I've got one and I'm thinking the big jog wheel and 16 sliders will work fabulously..
