Vegas 5 Is it stable and is it worth it?

I am running Vegas 4 with out a single threat of crash...its the most stable software i have EVER seen.

Is V5 the same? Or is it more crash happy?

Changes worth the price of admission. I have to admit that my mackie control (for Nuendo) sits quite while i am using Vegas, and adding the Mackie Control to my Vegas editing experience is certianly worth the price of admission. Anyone else using the MC with V5 ??

It is very stable in my experience. I have used many V4 vegs in V5 without any problem. There have been reports of some bugs and other issues... which you will find in this forum.

I haven't purchased it yet, but I think perhaps Brock wants more specific reasons than you have given.

If you make DVDs, it's worth it to upgade. If you don't have DVD Architect it's worth it to upgrade to Vegas +DVD. There's a very nice upgrade price until May 31st, I believe.

If you already have a Mackie controller, you will probably get more out of the upgrade than most.

I believe Vegas 5a is stable overall, but my impression is that it is more buggy than the Vegas 4a release. Vegas 4 underwent a public beta period, that may have helped iron out the kinks. I expect most of these will not be an issue by the time of Vegas 5b.

Even after you upgrade, you can still run both Vegas 4 and Vegas 5, so you have a safety net, you run across an issue.

If you look at the features in DVDA2 alone when considering the $200 pricetag of the upgrade, it's worth it.

In my opinion, Vegas 5 is not the upgrade I needed, wanted, and nor, given the spate of problems others seem to be having, is it anything I intend on installing until at least the rev 'b' cycle.

But for $200, I'm definitely interested in DVDA2 and will look forward to using it plenty.

Hi Brock.

A bit of a stab in the dark here, as I don't know where you're at with experience, aims etc.

One of the reasons I bought Vegas 4 was the reputation for stability. From all accounts since its release, Vegas 5 is nearly as stable.

If Vegas 5 has the features you need, it's worth the upgrade. If you, as I am, are working on mainly your own products, rather than in a professional capacity, and you have to ask if the new features are worth it, you probably won't use them.

Having said that, there was one specific feature in Vegas 5 I wanted to use, so the upgrade was worth every cent (I got it for free :).

DVDA 2 though was the clincher. It had a lot of features I wanted, upgrading to this was a no brainer. I think I would have almost forked out more cash for it.

To sum up, as far as Vegas 5.0 goes, the features in it are on a need to know basis - If you don't know, you don't need to know.

When you do need that something special, chances are you'll find it in version 4 or 5.

My 2 cents!

I use Vegas for recreational purposes. I upgraded from V4 +DVDA to V5+DVDA primarlily because of DVDA2 and the excellent upgrade price, not to mention the free Grafitti light.

V5a has been solid for me, although I've noticed a few quirky bugs but no show stoppers.

I was mid-project and switched. 5.0 opened my previous files without a hitch. It has NEVER crashed, nor have I had any bugs that have affected any of my work.

I noticed a slight increase in preview speed, everything else works great.

Thanks to all that replied.

It appears i will be shelling out the cash for the upgrade.

How does the Free "Filmlook" plug in look? Pretty convincing?

And having the Mackie control already, its goona be nice to be able to use it with Vegas...that has been on the wishlist for sometime.

I just wanted to know if V5 was crash happy or bug free for the most part.

Looks like i will be taking the plung!
