Vegas 5, no video track, MS MPEG-4 v1

I have a 300mb video file with the MS MPEG-4 v1 video codec.
It plays fine in WMP, VLC,
Gspot can render it with MSFT MPEG-4 Decompressor

But when I add it to Vegas, audio is fine, but video track won't add. And in Media Explorer Properties it reports stream offline for video.

I even tried a hack to put in the following
Program Files\Sony\Vegas 5.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\qt7plug
(I left in the qt5plug)
and
E:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas 5.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\aviplug
v 1.2.0.9787

but no help.

I have QT 7.6.5 and it cannot play the video (audio is fine)
Also installed is iTunes 9.0.2

System:
HPDV3510
4gb Ram
XP Pro (dual boot hacked onto an originally Vista system, it works well)

I don't however, yet have a DVD decoder installed (one of the losses of dual boot hacking)

There are two types of Windows video codecs, Direct Show and VFW (Video for Windows.) Vegas is a VFW-only application and Microsoft MPEG-4 v1 is a Direct Show codec. Bottom line, Vegas will not open the video portion of your file. You can convert the video using a third-party tool to something Vegas will read.
