Vegas 5 on Vista? quad-core AMD ? Network Render'g

- We need to speed up rendering.
- Advised Quad Core way to go.
- Found new HP AMD Quad-Core w/Vista & 5GB mem for $750

Questions:
1 - Will our Vegas 5 run on a Vista machine? (we are all XP here)
2 - AMD OK or should we insist on Intel processor?
3 - Does Network Rendering require an extra license of Vegas?
4 - Must you install Vegas on the 2nd machine to render on it?

We are trying to continue to edit a new project while the old project renders on the 2nd machine... requiring no CPU resources from our editing machine.

Thanks for any help.

1. Vegas Pro 8 is the first version that is *supported* on Vista. Other versions might work but ya takes ya chances and SCS won't help you with it.

2. AMD quad processors are fine but not as fast as Intel. There's some speculation that they might be more stable. If you go this route, let us know.

3. I think the network rendering feature allows you to render on two additional systems without buying another license. I understand it's a little tricky to set up, but nothing like configuring Samba. Relatively easy but not trivial. I think you will need to keep an instance of Vegas running on the main machine but that's not such a problem as you can run Vegas several times simultaneously.

4. don't know what needs to be installed on the render clients. Check your help files and manual.
