Vegas 5 Print to Tape Bug?

My most serious problem is that Print to Tape simply doesn't work. It shows "No device detected" for the DV firewire device that is there and *IS* detected in capture mode.

Further, capture mode, on a 2 hour DV I was importing, cause a hard dump of the PC about 1:40 into the capture; no useful diagnostic information to determine what happened. Repeating the same capture worked better, this time capture 5.0 simply stopped at that point, reporting dropped frames. I was able to capture the remainder as a separate clip without incident.

Capture 4.0 works and is stable, both for capture and print to tape.

My system: Vegas 4/DVDA1, Vegas 5/DVDA2, 120gb system drive, 120gb video drive, Win2K, Athlon 1700+, 512MB, TI chipset 1394 card, Sony TRV17.

I'm at my wits end and about to ask Sony for my money back on Vegas 5. I've been using Vegas since version 3, and this is without a doubt the most unstable, bug ridden release I have encountered.

Ideas? I'll eat the $50 extra I'll have to spend later when and if Sony fixes 5.0, but at this time, 5.0 is not usable for me and 4.0 continues to perform without any glitches, so it isn't a config issue.

Bob.

Unstable? Vegas is a rock solid as always...maybe some small quirks but stable....I'm willing to bet it is hardware problems with your system...and my bet is the firewire card...

To the best of my knowledge VidCap is the same for V4 or V5, you could continue to use the VidCap that came with V4 and use V5 for everything else.
