Vegas 5 Split Screen

I found a tutorial for doing this in vegas 4 along with a somewhat crude explaination of how it's changed in Vegas 5. I've played quite a bit with the split screen, parent child settings, and the different types of composting. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I know I can do this with the track motion (and it works very well), but I can't have it begin and stop like I could with an "effect". Has anyone here actually done this in Vegas 5 succesfully? If so, can you give me a detailed explanation of how or a veg files?

well.....in Vegas 5 theres a few ways you can do it...

1. Film the scene while splitting the scence down the middle or regular filming and just cropping out the picture.

2. You could use a green screen but i wouldnt suggest it..because it gets to confusing with the timing and everything. But its worth a shot if you can get people to time things really well...and if you have the patience to get the exact timing.

3. You could use the Beizer Masking tool...shoot your scene 3 times...one with the character on one side...another with the character on the other side..and the last one with just the background on it...then when your characters cross paths...use the Beizer tool to go frame by frame and make cut outs..its a pain in the ass but it works well...ill post a veg file on here to show how i do it.

I personally like the Beizer Masking tool better..its more precise.

What "effect" are you talking about? If you can describe it better, we can provide better analysis.

Are you talking about have one of the images move into splitscreen position to reveal the other image?

By "effect", I mean something that can be applied during the video then "unapplied". Kind of like they do on TV when two people are talking - or better yet - the Brady Bunch intro is a real good example (only with nine parts instead of two). The example I was referring to is here:

But the composting doesn't work the same in Vegas 5 as it did in Vegas 4.

Vegas 5 has transition envelopes that allow you to control the speed of transitions. You can set the transition envelope to 0%, which pauses the transition. Doing this on a Slide, Wipe or Push transition will probably get you want you want.

You may have to make sure that each clip framed far left/ far right.
