Vegas 5: Tip of the Day – Organize those scripts

JohnnyRoy wrote on 4/29/2004, 5:21 AM
Vegas 5 adds a better way to select Scripts by providing a \Script Menu directory under the Vegas 5 directory that acts as a real menu item in Vegas. But did you know that you can create subdirectories under the \Scripts Menu directory and they will show up as sub-menu items on Vegas’ script menu? Now you can place your scripts into directories like \Rendering, \Multi-cam, \Special Effects, \Event Adjustments, etc. and have them neatly organized in the Vegas script menu so you can find them quickly when you need them.

No - I didn't know that Johnny - will come in very handy as scripts proliferate even more!

Thanks for the tip ....

Yes. You'll notice that Excalibur, Tsunami, and Neon creates folders in the Script Menu folder to allow their pieces to be easily found. It's a GREAT means of organization!

And you can do your own icons !
Simply create a 16x16 png file (24bit) and name it the same as your script and put it in the same directory :

ExampleScript.js
ExampleScript.png

NP, I made the same mistake at first.

Also, just another gotcha to look out for... if you are using shortcuts in your Script Menu folder (probably a smart thing to do so you can keep all your scripts in better places), make sure you put the icon PNGs in the folder with the actual scripts. The icons won't show up if you put them into the folder with the short cuts.

Also notice that scripts show up as choices in the keyboard mapping options so you can assign them to any keystroke you want.

But WAIT there's MORE!

You can stick your scripts with their custom icons on the tool bar! Y'all probably knew that, but here's a screenshot of mine. The last 8 icons on the toolbar are my custom scripts. Cute eh? One click satisfaction.
