vegas 5 to movie studio platinum 8 for hobbyist?

i'm just a video hobbyist and primarily use vegas for vacation videos and photo slideshows. i've owned vegas versions 3, 4, and 5 and am now wondering if i should upgrade to movie studio platinum 8 that just came out? looking at the comparison charts, movie studio platinum 8 looks to have more/upgraded features from my vegas 5. i don't need XDCAM or high end editing capabilities. anyone think of a reason not to go with movie studio platinum for a hobbyist?

i just got a new vista machine and wonder if vegas 5 will run on it? also, will movie studio platinum open my vegas 5 projects?

any advice is appreciated.

Studio Platinum 8 may work better in Vista. But Vegas 5 is better if you want to do more advanced work.

If you want the 3D tools, additional tracks, scripting tool access, then you'll want to stick with the Pro version of the software.
If you want speed, basic features and a more easy/simple workflow, then Platinum 8 might well be your best bet. It's very powerful, no doubt.

Don't forget about Bezier masks. I find this to be one of the most important features for my work that's available in only the full version.
