Where did you hear that?

If you do a search on these forums for auto input you can find out more about it.

There's a list of features for V5 on the Video forum that includes it.

doctorfish is correct, this topic has been covered here.

The funny thing is that even though the feature list is arguably video heavy, the video boys are pissed.

"The funny thing is that even though the feature list is arguably video heavy, the video boys are pissed."

Where's this post in the Video forum? My running score shows 11 mutually beneficial, 12 for the good guys, and 12 for the bad guys. It's a tied ballgame and we all win!!! :-)

The thread is "More Vegas 5 specs arrive". This thread does not list all the features for V5 I've seen but does show some of the disappointment by the "bad guys".

Overall, what I've seen on many projected feature lists concerning the audio side have been a turn off for me. Not for you Red, as you want control surface support and seem to warm to auto input monitoring. For me these are not important nor is reverse as I have SF, so be it.

I do video also so it's not a wash at this point but who could argue Vegas is leaning much more toward video and audio support for video than audio/music creation (I know, you hate that) /DAW/Sequencer (hate that too, I know).

The only feature I wanted was basic MIDI record/playback and tempo support as you know I'm syncing to Sonar now.

My point was that even the video guys are not thrilled.

I'm a video guy and I'm thrilled.

Also, the thread on the video forum is based on an add published in Videomaker so I guess they won't insist on audio features.

Wait and see.

Here's what I asked for in the tell us what you want post.

1. H/W control surface support
2. Sine/saw/squarewave envelope draw tool, like Protools..great for autopan effects.
3. Reverse Event
4. Surround Encoder
5. DX VU/PEAK meter.
6. CD text support
7. Open Acid Project
8. Rewire Support
9. Mute also Mutes Pre Fader sends
10. OMF suuport
11. Pre and Post fader Track inserts

Far as I can see, I got about 36% of what I asked for, but I'm still pretty excited. For the majority of the stuff I didn't get there's other work arounds. Like all things, it's not going to be the be-all end-all like everyone hopes it will be. If it was it would put the competition out of business and then we wouldn't have anyone driving Sony to improve in future versions :-)

hmmm interesting
This means 4 items on that list are in Vegas 5.

We know that number 1 and 3 are already there, this means 2 other features are in V5, anyone wants to play the guessing game ?

4 and 7 ?

an audio recording app without auto input is like a car without a steering wheel.

A DAW without MIDI support is like a woman without a vagina.

Yo Red, I’m not sure I follow your ‘11 mutually beneficial, 12 for the good guys, and 12 for the bad guys’ thing. Is that a feature count?

Am I right in saying that the so far confirmed bits that are going to be of interest to the good guys are:

Some sort of ACID style loop tracks
Control surfaces
Envelope automation recording
Auto-input
Event reverse
Customizable keyboard mapping

...The ACID stuff would suggest to me that the new version may be a lot more user friendly when it comes to tempo issues...We can only hope...

If that is the case it seems like a pretty solid list so far to me...Depends on the ACID implementation and what other goodies remain as yet unannounced.

...Just toss MIDI/VSTi and Rewire on top of that lot and sales would quadruple. rolls eyes

...Hold the phone batman...I think I just figured out what ‘media subclip creation’ might be...

Very happy with that...if I am right. Might wanna toss that on the list as well...

Hey red I think this could be done via a script. I know that there are scripts for autopanning or volume adjustments. Try going to the scripting forum with your idea and see if one of those guys can work something up.

I totally agree ....it can not be better illustrated than this...

But, I think you'll really be very happy very soon pipe.

"Customizable keyboard mapping"

I would consider this to be a mutually beneficial feature, one that can be used by an audio user or video user, so if that's in there it would fall under the mutual category. Everything will be confirmed soon....very soon!!!

For a cynical answer: A binding legal document that keeps stuff meant to be used in the real world from actually being tested in the real world. It will explain some of the odd behaviours and philosophies in certain products.
