Which Elura ?

I use V5 with my first generation Elura and it works like a dream.

Hi Stonefield,
Its the Elura 2MC (older one- progressive). I think you had the same one.

For some reason (under Win XP) when I turn on the camera, the OS takes 3 minutes to pop up these menu choices on what action to take (capture with Microsoft, or capture with Sony Vegas are some options). I select Take no Action.
Withing Vegas the capture window sees a Microsoft DV device and I can not control the camera. This after like 5 minutes of the camera on.

I also have the original Elura with prog scan and OIS and it works fine with Vegas 5. gzabetes, going to ask the obvious: you have your camera in the VCR mode, and in Vegas you have dv device control on, correct? Try turning the camera on and off a couple of times and let Vegas detect it again. Also suggest you check your IEEE cable to make sure its plugged in firmly at both ends and is in good condition. Canon's implementation of IEEE-1394 is very good and rarely gives problems. As a last resort you might try uninstalling and reinstalling Vegas. Maybe some little file got corrupted somehow. Hope you get it working.

Well,
Tried the reinstall of Vegas. Still inop.
Wondering what Operating System you guys have.
I wonder if its XP SP2 causing these.

Also, the camera appears in Scanners and Devices as Canon Device.
But Vegas hangs, no response, eventually it sees a Microsoft Device that it cannot really control.
Had no problems in Win2000 with Vegas 4.
thanks for your help.

I use Windows 2000 Professional with SP4. You might be onto something with the SP2 concerns. I know SP1a and SP2 has caused some other strange things for a lot of people. Do you have a way of uninstalling that or using a system restore prior to installing that? Virus protection also comes to mind. Some of them are resource hogs. If you haven't already, you might try disabling it during your captures.

Can't hurt to also submit your problem, with camera description, to Sony. Might be slow response but at least it's another dog out hunting for you in case this problem persists.

thanks,
after more research there is an issue with XP SP2 and 1394 drivers.
However falling these back was impossible, they keep coming back from some CAB file. Tried to edit the cab and ended up wiping it out.
THey still come back.
Will reimage my PC this weekend. THis time XP SP1.
Oh well.

RESOLUTION:

Found the fix. You need to remove the SP2 firewire drivers and fallback to the old ones found here:

Yes, makes sense now. Old camera + new drivers = limbo. Glad you got things working smoothly again.
