Yes!

Thanks, guys. Guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet. That DSR-30 will make an expensive door-stop!

Only two users here have the DSR-11?

Anyone else?

Jay, I've made comments elsewhere about the DSR-11. Why not do a forum search?

My only issue with the DSR11 was/is that large shells don't load easily. I'm afraid to load other people's large shell tapes while they're looking. Otherwise the deck has been reliable. It's very basic though. No audio metering, no timecode counter unless you're viewing it on monitor output.

Jay,
Get your DSR 30 fixed. It's a much better deck.

No audio metering, no timecode counter...

Darn! That, for me, is unacceptable, Rob. Thanks for pointing that out.

Get your DSR 30 fixed.

John, the good news is it isn't broken. I've discovered that it appears to be a Microsoft issue with Service Pack 2. For some reason they altered a file named "msdv.sys" that seems to be the culprit.

Jay,

Have you tried the instructions in this KB article? If the patch linked there doesn't help, there are instructions for rolling back the msdv.sys file as provided by a Microsoft representative.

I don't know about that, I've had a few issues with the DSR 30 and it's firewire interface, the DSR 11 plays very happily with a system loaded up with lots of firewire gadgets but not the DSR 30. Also I think the DSR 30 doesn't do both DV and DVCAM from memory and another thing, it doesn't do NTSC, well at least not the PAL version.

But there are things that the DSR 30 will do that the 11 will not, like edit without a PC. Tried that once, that was wierd, then I've never got my brain around that trimmer thingy in Vegas either.

after more years than i care to think working in broadcast/production, i retired with vegas 5, pd 170, dsr11.

well vegas left my old analogue mixers/switchers, looking like fisher-price toys, my old avid / es 7 like programs written in basic.

the 170 will never replace the quality of my old 400, but it isn't half bad. i shoot occassionally for many of my old clients, and though they've noticed the change in camera, i've had no complaints (perhaps not as much praise either...)

the 11 isn't a dsr 80, but what the hell, it's all 010110's after all.
if vegas's audio meters are lying to me, i'll sue! in fact, before i did any broadcast work i ran a test tone tape along with comp generated tones, and played them back on my 80. all matched....

happy vegimite,

leslie

Jay, I have a DSR-11 and it works well with Vegas. I just downloaded the 6b update, so I'll have to report back after I get a chance to digitize something.

I thought the lack of audio meters was a deal breaker, but it hsn't been an issue as of yet. The levels in Vegas, if using firewire, should be an accurate indicator of what is being printed to tape.

Godd luck.
