What is "broadcast WAV support?"

A "broadcast wave" is a wav file with embedded timing information. The use is in synchronizing audio and video. Let's say you have a camera with timecode information like a Z1, and you have a flash ram audio recorder that records broadcast waves. You could make sure that the two clocks were sychronized, then record broadcast wave audio on the separate machine while the camera was recording timecode video. When it came time to edit, the audio and video will automatically line themselves up. At least that's what should happen theoretically ;-)

Cool!
How do you synchronize such devices to begin with? Is there some kind of hardware interface to sync them? Firewire, perhaps?

And is this kind of thing that is (or will be) available on equipment at the Sony Z1 / Marantz PMD660 level of the spectrum, or are we talking only high-end broadcast gear?

"DVI/VGA external monitoring"

What do you think of this feature? Would this replace the idead of using an RGB minitor?

My thoughts is that it is for HD/HDV to a LCD/Plasma device.

There was also a Vegas 6 link on that ad too in case anyone is interested :)
Not much to see though on the page, you're just able to sign up to be notified when Vegas 6 is released..

Here is a link to basic information on BWF

I just got a PMD670 a few days ago, but haven't had time to play with it much. It does generate bwf format output as one option. There is a clock in the recorder, but I haven't seen any way to synchronize it with great accuracy. I imagine the 660 supports some level of bwf.

TV and Radio groups in Europe originated the spec. As I read it, the main initial advantage is that the recorders can be set with information and the files have meta data so you can read things like who recorded it, for what project, and when. I think ENG people like it a lot.

A recent extension is multichannel. Lets you save a 7.1 mix in one file. I'm sure that is one of the big attractions for HD video people. Can't tell yet (from here) if Vegas 6 supports multichannel.
