I was wondering about this as well. You need a way to connect to that server. It'd definitely be slick for environments with multiple edit systems.

Well there's no reason why the MS SQL server cannot be moved to a backend server. The Vegas 6 front end should still be able to connect to it. The interesting part is what happens when you run 4 Vegas 6 desks and connect them all the one backend server.
The free MS SQL Server distro permits upto 5 simultaneous connections so no problem there, any more than 5 and you gotto pay MS.
Why is Sony being so quiet on this, this alone could / should be the biggest single feature in V6. Imagine being able to do keyword searches to find an asset and it could be on any of the edit desks. I don't think even FCP has anything like this capability built in, Avid certainly have it on their high end systems and there's a raft of seriously expensive asset management tools from 3rd party vendors. Obviously Xpri is pretty big also in this area. To have it in something as cheap as Vegas 6 is pretty impressive so why aren't Sony talking this up.

In another thread, Sony mentioned that they are "extremely interested" in exploring multiuser functionality in the Media Manager...so who knows what's coming next.

Well obviously no one outside the Madison skunk works knows but one could easily hazard a pretty educated guess. Even if they don't take it anywhere by the very nature of what they've done 3rd parties would have no difficulty expanding its functionality.
