Vegas 6 and HDV : how to work ?

Hello,

What is a good way to work with HDV and Vegas 6 (cam HC1 or A1) :

1. Cineform from Vegas
2. HD connect
3. Other ?

Because with native HDV, the file is not so big but the work is very difficult in the time line.
With Cineform, the file is bigger but more easy in the time line.
With HD connect, it seems the best.

Anyway, it seems that with single (HT) or dual core, 2Mo Ram are necessary.

HD Connect?

Do you mean Connect HD? You can download the demo of that from Cineform and see how you like it. For best results, it doesn't make sense to edit it native HDV. You can think of the HDV workflow having a capture codec (mpeg-2), an editing codec (Cineform, Sony's YUV 4:2:2 codec, etc), and then a delivery codec, (whatever you want to delivery to).

You may also want to look at VASST's Gearshift product, which allows for batch conversion from HDV to Sony's 4:2:2 codec or Cineform. It speeds up the workflow.

You definitely need a speedy computer for HDV.
If you search this forum, you'll find a lot of HDV info and Gearshift info.

Except for storage and the initial render time, creating the Cineform intermediates is the way to go. On my increasingly aged (3.5 years old) 2.8 GHz P4, the intermediates play back at a reasonable rate and are perfectly usable.
