Vegas 6 / DVDA 3 Training

Greetings all...I am new to the world of video editing but very interested. I recently lost my job, as a network engineer, and have been entertaining the idea of starting a new career! I did a little research and decided to go with Vegas, bought the software and hardware needed, and now I am looking for some quality training. Although I am very computer literate, I am new to Vegas and video editing in general. I have searched this website and several others in hope of finding the perfect training videos. I found several recommendations but thought I would ask your advice before making a decision. I would greatly appreciate any information you can offer me. Also, please keep in mind that, while I am a novice, I am only working part-time right now and plan to study/practice several hours each day. So, training materials that start at the beginning level but work their way into more advanced levels would be great and hopefully save me a little money. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this post! I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi, CB, welcome. I personally think that a set of good training dvds and a book or two are invaluable assets to Vegas. I use and refer back to some of the VASST products. I would recommend their new Absolute series, found here:

IMO a very well-spent $129. And you can add additional volumes as your knowledge grows.

Also, this forum is one of the best I've ever seen. If you have any questions on Vegas whatsoever, search here first and you're likely to find the answer. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your reply, David. I tell you...sometimes I think I may have jumped in over my head! I'm not sure Vegas is a good "beginner's editor" but I hated to buy some application that I would outgrow in no time! I'm a bit overwhelmed right now but I am determined to learn the software!

One quick question, are the training materials you recommended geared towards a novice...at least in the beginning. I've ran into situations where a topic is discussed assuming the user already knows the terminology. I really need something I can build on! Thanks again, Charlie

That's the beauty of this set - it assumes you have bought and installed the software, and that's pretty much it. It starts with the basics and builds on that.

Something I've always liked about Vegas is that you can acquire the knowledge of the basics very quickly and get some work done. Then, if you want you can dig deeper into the advanced features of the app. But you don't have to know everything about the app to get up and running.
