Sorry if I do not understand your question correctly, but this would be my answer:

There are 3 programs in the Vegas family - they are different in features and in price.

Please see a comparison here:

I have the book you're talking about; I read it quite a bit. It's for the full version of Vegas 6. I use the full version 6 now, but I used Vegas Movie Studio 6 for a couple of months and picked up some training DVDs from VASST and there's a couple more on eBay. Just put Vegas Training in the search box and look around. Try this to :

There's VMS6, VMS 6 Platinum, and Vegas 6. ( Although Version 7 is now out. )

So, is the Vegas Platinum Edition the Full Version of VMS 6? or is the Platinum Edition Vegas 7? I'm still confused. Is the standard VMS 6(a) still a good program?

The versions should be listed so:

1) VMS 6.0 b

2) VMS 7.0 a Platinum

3) Full Vegas 7.0 c

I have used this family of programs since "version" 3 - which is a period of 2 1/2 years. And YES the VMS 6.0 is a very strong, fast and extremely reliable editor with a surplus of features that you would have to buy and pay for extra and extra and extra in other video-editors.
After you get confident with VMS it also becomes clearer what the descriptions in the Vegas family comparison sheet really mean - and when time comes you can easily upgrade since all the handicraft you have learned using VMS works the same way in the other versions too.
