I've been thinking about buying "Vegas 6 Editing Workshop" to help with my mastery of Vegas 6. The various reviews on Amazon do not portray a very flattering picture; they basically say it has lots of information, but that it is poorly structured, wordy and full of typos. Can anyone here offer any advice?
I have the previous edition by the same author, Vegas 5 Editing Workshop. I'm sure the V6 version is based on the same text, and it's proved invaluable for me. You don't just get "this function does x y z" you get real world examples and in some cases sample veg files and media.
I, too, had the Vegas 5 version, which I passed on to my brother. I may re-buy the version 6 book to have as a reference as I now miss it! It wasn't that helpful (to me) in actually learning the program -- I advanced much quicker once I got the tutorial videos (from Sony & from Vasst). But, once past the basics, the information is useful to have around.
By the way -- wouldn't recommend buying together with "Instant Vegas 5" as this book has almost no additional info (almost no info at all!).
I have found DSE's book(s) to be straight forward and a most reliable source of information. I would have liked to see more in-depth examples with 3D Motion coupled with Parent/Child/Track stuff as it's a whole new way to do stuff in Vegas and there are many areas to impliment this function that the book doesn't mention. Otherwise the typos are not that many and in any case don't cause any real problems as a re-read or an extra independent thought clears them up readily.
I would say yes - they are definatly worth the price. //Garo
