Vegas 6 gets HDV codec

For those of you who were hoping this would happen, it's official.
From the article:
"At NAB, Vegas 6.0 will be shown with the CineForm codec for native HDV editing built in. β€œIt will be the same high-quality codec, only there will not be the incremental cost of an add-on module. We understand that customers want this process to be seamless and fast,” said Dave Chaimson (VP, marketing for Sony Media Software).

Nice, I'm eager to see how it will be integrated.

Kind of implies that some work was done on Vidcap. That's got to be a good thing.

That article was an awesome preview of whats to come in the very near future. Woot Woot.

ok... possible problem here...

That codec is an extra $100 or so. Will that be added onto the cost (ie instead of a $300 upgrade it's now $400)? And, isn't that codec WinXP only?

Yep. I have a feeling that Vegas 6 is XP only. Gone may be the ability to use w2k. I am assuming Sony licensed part of the codec from Cineform similar to what Adobe did for its Premiere users. Hopefully Sony wont jack up the price and include it in its normal features upgrade when determinign pricing.

Another question - will there be consideration for those of us who have recently shelled out $150 for the standalone Cineform software?
p@mast3rs wrote on 4/13/2005, 6:20 PM
Probably not. Sadly, thats the cost of doing business and being on the cutting edge. Just like someone can probably upgrade from Vegas 4 to Vegas 6 for a lower price as someone who upgraded from Vegas 4 to Vegas 5 to Vegas 6.

I hope V6 isn't XP only. Then I can't really use it. :( It's one thing for a $2-30 upgrade, but another $100-300 on top & it's a no go. :'(

In DV Magazine videoguys has an ad for Vegas 6+DVD Productions Suite for 549.95 after rebate.

The ad says includes built-in HDV support optimized for Sonys HDR-Z1U camera & HVR-M1OU deck; SD/HD Capture editing and export utilizing BlackMagic's Design's DeckLink boards, enhanced multi-processor support, next-generation DVI timeline monitoring, project nesting, AAF import/export, system-wide media management; VST audio effects, Broadcast WAV support, and much more.

Sounds like a little extra leaked out in this advert.

That sounds pretty close to the one magazine ad that was posted not too long ago. So at least we are getting more confirmation as more than a couple sources are saying the same thing.

I hadn't see the system wide media management mentioned before.
TheHappyFriar wrote on 4/13/2005, 8:24 PM
i don't think it's extra info, Sony Sales dept. is just sending info to other before us.

I've always hated that. I'd like to know about my product before a magazine does. At least SOME official info. :)

i'm assuming the system wide media management is the same as in ACID 5 pro with access to the same SQL engine & database
