Vegas 6 Problem at 1024x720

Brad Herder wrote on 1/28/2008, 11:02 AM
I recently bought a Canon Powershot TX1 and have taken some HD video at 1024x720 resolution. I made a short new test movie and choose to have it match one of the HD video clips and in my little preview window down on the lower-right corner, it shows 1024x720.

My problem is - when I try to render it as a movie and choose a template that says has the dimensions 1024x720, I get:

"The custom template is not valid with your current project settings"

Any ideas on how I can get this to work?

Thanks,
Brad

Some output formats only work at specifically defined sizes. 1024x720 is not a standard HD frame size. If you're trying to render to an mpeg HD file you may not be able to choose it. Usually 720 HD is 1280x720.

If you render to AVI or WMV then you should be able to choose any size you wish, as long as the dimensions are multiples of 4 (for avi) or 8 (for wmv).

As Chienworks said, it's 1280x720. Also, you need Movie Studio Platinum to edit and export at that resolution, not the plain version of Movie Studio. The plain version of Movie Studio can only work with up to 800x600.

I'm sorry - it was 1280x720.

So - I've been really really happy with Vegas 6 and would certainly be willing to upgrade to something else that cost in the $100 range if it could do HD.

Would this platinum version be the thing to buy or what is my cheapest alternative?

I do not want anything significantly more complicated than Vegas 6. I barely use 1/100th of the functionality that it has.

Thanks!
Brad

Just for fun, try setting the output size to 800x452 or 640x360 and see if that works. If so then we can be pretty sure that there's a maximum size limitation.

Yeah, you need Vegas Platinum. I highly recommend you upgrade to Platinum 8. It sells for about $80 in some places, it should be cheaper if you get the upgrade version. Download the trial too, and make sure it's the latest version (there have been 2-3 free updates).

Upgrade from Vegas MS 6 to Vegas MS 8 (even platinum) should be in the $45 range - check Sony's web site (you'll need your serial number to order).

If you're inclined towards non-Vegas applications you may also want to look in the stores for bundles with Tax software this week. Yes, rebates on video editing software bundles when buying tax software...go figure.

I wish I'd read your message earlier, but ...

I bought (not upgraded) Sony Vegas 8 Platinum and it can output high def video!!! Yay!

Thanks very much everyone.
