Vegas 6 trial hangs when starting up

I have the Vegas 6 Trial on my Win XP SP2 box. It shows a progress bar saying

Opening media library: default

that goes to 100%, then it freezes. There is no disc activity and no processor activity, it just hangs and there is no further change. The Windows Task Manager "Applications" tab shows two tasks labelled "Untitled - Sony Vegas 6.0 TRIAL" both with status "Not Responding."

Any suggestions? My trial still has 20 days to go. The funny thing is, the program actually did start up when I first installed it. Well, sort of- it would work about 50% of the time that I started, the other 50% it would hang like this. Now it hangs 100%. I've tried rebooting windows but that didn't change anything.

Try disabling the media manager and see if it starts. It sounds like its hanging there.

That looks like it. Vegas did eventually open, after many minutes. I went to preferences and unchecked "use media manager" and closed the program. Now it opens in just under three seconds- amazing. I don't know what the "media manager" does, but I don't miss it. Thanks!

I haven't been able to pin down exactly why Media Manager hangs on some systems. I have one that absolutely refuses to run it. I have another that runs it flawlessly.

As for what it does, it makes it very easy to organize, sort, search and preview media you might use in a project. On the one system I have that runs Vegas 6 flawlessly I enjoy using it.

Have fun.

6.0? or 6.0a? If not 6.0a, download it and install the newer verison.
