Vegas 6 with Boris FX 8

Has anyone been able to get the motion stabilization to work?

It works when I try it on FX8 LTD for vegas (came with Vegas6), but when I downloaded and installed the tryit-buyit version of FX 8 it doesn't do anything when I hit apply in the plug-in. I also only get one frame at a time in the Boris window, which seems flawed but that is what the FX manual says will happen.

It just doesn't seem like it is worth buying....

Any opinions??

I found the same issue... I don't have Vegas 6 yet so I don't have the LTD version. I downloaded the standard trial version and tried the motion stabilizer. It works in the Boris standalone version okay but not as a Vegas plug-in.

Are you saying that the LTD version works as a plug-in?

No,

The LTD version does not work as a plug-in, but it does allow you to save the file out as an AVI.

I don't think the motion stabilizer function can work as a plug-in (at least with the current design) for Vegas 6 because it only grabs one frame of video. You need to interactively point at the target areas inside of Boris FX to use the stabilizer, this isn't possible with only one static frame.

zstevek,
I think you're right. I've had a couple of discussions with the Boris people about this, and it looks like that's the way it is.

You can use Boris as a plug-in pretty well if all it does is create media that you then compose in Vegas. If you want to compose with Boris I think you just get the one frame. Maybe if you perform the operation and then go back to Vegas and preview you should see the correct video, but I'm not sure.

Steve,

I am new to the forum and was doing a search for Boris issues when I ran across this old post. I hope you found that the issue you encountered was that when you invoke BorisFX or Grafiti from Vegas, the plug in only receives the current frame, not the entire clip as you would expect. As you might expect, motion stuff doesn't work very well with on a single frame.

Both Boris and Sony are aware of the issue and promise better integration in the future. At least Boris is... Sony never responded to my email. Anyway, I have a work-around to use the motion filters if you are still intereste.

On another subject, have you tried to apply a Pan and Crop to a clip that was returned from a Boris product? I just can't seem to get them to work and when I saw that you had Grafiti 4 I thought perhaps you could check this for me... here are the steps... it should only take a minute:

1) In vegas, insert an empty video event
2) In vegas, apply a Grafiti FX and invoke Grafiti
3) In grafiti, set clip length to 5 sec, use any typeon preset from the library and click apply (the text is not important)
4) In vegas, the clip should now show a full frame type on animation
5) In vegas, use P&C to shrink size and move around...

Did it work?

Thanks in advance...
