Vegas 6d and 6a Crash right after install

Akroma wrote on 2/21/2006, 10:44 AM
I just bought Vegas 6d, installed it, and after vegas runs before I can do anything I get this message.
"An error occured starting Vegas." "The reason for the error could not be determined."
After clicking ok on the error vegas says open. I then clicked on file and open when clicking "desktop" I get the above error again. Looking in the details of the error see this
" Execption 0xc0000005 (access violation) Read:0x0 IP: 0x58dc18"

So I uninstalled 6d grab my 6a disk, and try to install 6a. Right after the install i get the same messages here is the output of the 6a log. I have a gateway Pc 1.5 gig ram 2.5 Mhz processor and windows xp pro sp2

Unitnstall 6a or 6d, delete the Sony Setup files, then re-install 6.0d. Then delete the Sony Setup files again. Do you have the latest .net installed?

Prior to installing 6a I uninstalled 6d by doing the following
1. removed all sony products from add/remove this included the following
a. Vegas 6d
b. Sony Media Manager
c. Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR)
2. After the above was removed I deleted the following folders
a. The Sony Folder in Program files
b. The Sony install files in Program files

After a reboot I installed 6a and got the same errors as 6d

I have .NET framework version 1.1 with service pack 1 installed

I'm not very pleased at the lack of response from Sony Forum Tech Support, if there is such a thing, Vegas+DVD is not a cheap product. I would hope that Sony would want me to recommend this product to others! If I can get support I'm sure others are not too!

The forum is made up of "regular" people just like you. This is not Sony Tech support, but wisdom and help passed down from those who have experienced problems, or have gained insight by hard work and effort.

If you want Sony to respond to your issue, use the support tab up top and select "Technical Support" and send in your message to them. It might take a week or two for a response, but they will get to you and they usually are able to help :)

You might want to disable all the start up items - Start-->Run-->msconfig--> select the "start up" tab and deselect everything, hit apply and restart. Then try running Vegas. If it is only version a and d, go back to using version c until Vegas 7 comes out.

Hope this helps,
