Vegas 7.0 c with Vista crashing

I'm having a hard time getting Vegas 7.0c to run on Vista...and there are a couple reasons I need to have a second machine with vista and vegas...so thankfully my main machine is and will be xp for a while.

First, the media manager won't install (Vista says that version of microsoft sql is incompatible). I skip the media manager install.

I downloaded quicktime 7.1.3 from apple earlier today and installed it (there was no quicktime on this machine prior). Now when I go to open a project, I get a hard crash with this info relating to quicktime.

Vegas 7.0c is not certified to run on 64 bit applications.

Yep - Quicktime is causing the crash. This line says it all:

"In Module 'QuickTime.qts' at Address 0x66800000 + 0x69B97"

Get rid of Quicktime (which is obviously having problems) and that should solve this issue.

Vegas however - is NOT certified to run on Vista since Vista is not officially available yet. If you can manage to hack Vegas into running on Vista - then good on ya...but don't expect any "official" Sony support until at least a few months after Vista is available at retail outlets...

Thanks guys...Vista is now available to Microsoft volume license clients and as of late January will be in stores...I'm running the officially released version.

If I get rid of quicktime, I would not be able to import or use .mov's right? When I tried to run Vegas prior to installing quicktime, it told me quicktime was missing and I needed to install it.

Is there a way to get vegas to work without any version of quicktime being installed if some of the media is .mov's?

Thank you. Sean

Well - just cause you and I have Vista RTM and it will be released to the public on the 30th - doesn't mean anything as far as support is concerned. Until Sony officially states that Vista is available for support - it's unsupported...volume licence clients, officially released version or otherwise. Sony could care less about Microsoft's release schedule.

Yep. No QT = no *.mov

"Is there a way to get vegas to work without any version of quicktime being installed if some of the media is .mov's?"

Not that I know of. But what's the point? Why would you want to blatently install apps against an OS that is NOT supported? And one that is obviously causing problems. Just stick with XP and know that it works fine.

Vista is a waste of time for now since you won't get any support from anyone for months - so if you insist on going down that road - be prepared for a long wait to solve your issues.
