Vegas 7.0 hangs

I recently purchased a Sony Vaio laptop and installed Vegas 7.0 on it the installation was fine. When I launch vegas, the splash screen comes up on the screen and stops loading the program while the splash screen "Intializing Audio Engine". Any ideas what maybe wrong? I downloaded the latest update (7.0e) from the Downloads section.

Sorry I forgot to mention that my O/S is Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 32-bit Operating System. I also tried uninstallig Vegas 7 and Media Manager then re-install using my installation CD, problem still persists.

Any help would be appreciated.

QE, as this is a double post I suggest that any contributors willing to add their ideas do so here , as a few answers are there already.
