Well, really, it's likely you'd get the free upgrade no matter where you buy the old versions, so long as you did so since August 10th. Sony has offered the same deal -- free upgrades if you registered in the last month or so -- with each new release for quite some time now.
Not that I can think of a reason not to buy from VideoGuys. :)
I'll give my money direct to Sony Madison if I can help it. More money direct to them the better they can do in the future. assuming that is, of course, that it's not gonna cost me a ton to upgrade (isn't it usually like 199 or something?). I say I'll pay upto 200 for the upgrade just to give Sony the dough. otherwise it's a $99 and a spare copy of Vegas for someone that wants to upgrade.
Do any of you know for sure if Vegas 7 will be available by itself? I thought I read somewhere (but I don't recall where) that Vegas 7 would now only be available as the "Vegas+DVD Production Suite".
PLEASE NOTE: I could be wrong about that -- that's why I'm asking...
The reason that I ask is that I'm a lowly Vegas Movie Studio user, and I'm considering the B&H $99 deal for Vegas 6. It's been noted somewhere that this should qualify for a free upgrade to Vegas 7 (if V6 purchased after Aug 10th or whatever), but if V7 is only available as Vegas+DVD, I would expect the upgrade would somehow have to involve paying for DVD Arch (ie like an upgrade from Vegas to Vegas+DVD) -- so, not really a free upgrade to 7.
The VideoGuys offer specifically says if you purchase Vegas+DVD 6, you will get a free upgrade to Vegas+DVD Production Suite (7). They don't make any mention of such an upgrade offer for their Vegas 6 Only package.
If I get Vegas 6 for $99, and can't upgrade cheaply to 7, I could upgrade my VMS+DVD 6 to ver VMS+DVD 7 for $45, and would then (hopefully) be able to burn DVD's with AC3 using my Architect Studio ver 7 (which adds support for AC3 -- we don't currently have that in VMS 6).
Or, I can wait around and hope that somebody upgrading their Vegas+DVD 6 to Vegas+DVD 7 will offer a really sweet deal on their version 6 license.
I don't really need the newest features offered in V7, but would love to have 3D track motion, nested projects, masks, unlimited tracks, MPEG bitrate selection from within Vegas, etc. -- all the features us VMS users miss out on.
